This Saucer Magnolia is unique in form and flower among cultivated magnolias, Galaxy is a single-trunked, upright tree with a narrow crown and ascending branches. Blooming later in the spring than other varieties, therefore the flower buds are likely to avoid possible spring frost damage.

Like many other Magnolias, this tree does best with mulch around the root zone and protection from strong winds. Use as a specimen or accent where spring flowers can be appreciated. Developed at the U.S. National Arboretum as the result of a 1963 cross between M. lilliflora and M. sprengeri ‘Diva’
