Start with one plant. Or hand us the whole property.
Canopy brings the pleasure of a garden center together with the experience to create complete outdoor spaces—from the first coffee and conversation to plant selection, custom design, construction and professional installation.
What Canopy does
Canopy is a year-round home and garden destination near Saratoga Springs where guests can shop plants and distinctive home goods, visit the Greenhouse Café, ask real gardening questions and connect with a full-service landscape design-and-build team.
More than a garden center
Everything begins with knowing what grows here.
Canopy may feel new, but the knowledge behind it is not.
Our roots reach back through generations of the Smith family and decades of growing hardy nursery stock at Mandy’s Spring Nursery. We understand the plants, weather and landscapes of Upstate New York because we have spent years growing in them, designing for them and building within them.
Canopy brings that history closer to Saratoga Springs—and gives it a new kind of home: part garden center, part café, part design studio and part gathering place.
From a small find to a complete transformation
We can meet you wherever the idea begins.
You do not need a finished plan before walking through the door. Sometimes the first step is a tree. Sometimes it is a sketch, a difficult slope or a backyard that has never felt complete.
Plants selected for this region
Explore changing collections of annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, houseplants and garden essentials—with people nearby who can help you choose more confidently.
Advice before the expensive mistake
Bring photographs, measurements or the story of the problem area. Our team can help you think through light, soil, scale, maintenance and the right plant for the right place.
A plan that makes the property feel whole
For larger projects, our landscape team can develop a cohesive design that connects planting, circulation, outdoor living and the character of your home.
More than planting beds
Our capabilities extend into patios, walkways, retaining walls, hardscape construction and the practical work required to turn a concept into a lasting outdoor space.
Plants placed with a reason
From trees and shrubs to complete garden installations, our crews bring the design to life with attention to planting conditions, long-term growth and the finishing details.
A place worth visiting before the project
Browse distinctive gifts and home pieces, order something from the café and experience Canopy even when you are not planting a thing today.
Concept to completion
One conversation can grow into the whole landscape.
Canopy makes it easier to move from inspiration to action without piecing together a designer, plant source, contractor and installation crew on your own.
Tell us what is not working.
A blank yard, an overgrown foundation, a new home, a tired patio or simply the feeling that the property could be more beautiful.
We look at the whole property.
Our team considers how the space is used, how it moves, what it needs to screen or reveal, and what will thrive over time.
We shape a clear, buildable plan.
Planting, hardscape, materials and priorities come together as one landscape rather than a collection of unrelated improvements.
Our crews bring it into the ground.
We coordinate the materials, plants, construction and installation so the finished result reflects the plan—not a watered-down version of it.
The landscape becomes better with time.
The goal is not only a beautiful installation day. It is a place designed around healthy plants, sound construction and years of life ahead.
Why Canopy can do it all
Because we did not begin with a showroom.
We began with land, plants and the work of making landscapes succeed.
The café, gifts and timber-frame experience make Canopy a beautiful place to visit. The nursery heritage and landscape team are what allow the relationship to continue far beyond the store.
Grower knowledge: decades of experience with hardy trees, shrubs and perennials suited to Northeast conditions.
Design experience: thoughtful planning that considers the whole property rather than selling plants one at a time.
Construction capability: patios, walkways, retaining walls and outdoor spaces built as part of one coordinated project.
Real people: approachable staff who can help with today’s plant question and connect you with deeper expertise when the project grows.
One long view: plants, design, construction and installation working toward a landscape intended to mature beautifully.
No project required
Canopy is still a place to simply spend the morning.
Order coffee. Walk through the greenhouse. Browse plants, books, pottery, kitchen pieces and gifts. Ask a question or do not. Inspiration counts, even when nothing is being installed this week.
When the idea gets bigger
You already know where to begin.
When a few plants become a planting plan—or a planting plan becomes a patio, walkway, retaining wall or complete landscape—you do not have to start over with a stranger.
Rooted here. Built to grow.
Canopy is the next chapter of a much older idea.
A great garden business should be useful at every scale.
It should help someone choose a single perennial with confidence. It should make a cup of coffee feel like a reason to stay. It should offer objects that make home feel more personal. And when someone is ready to transform an entire property, it should have the knowledge, plants, designers and builders to carry that vision through.
That is the future we are building at Canopy: a complete home, garden and landscape destination rooted in Upstate New York—and ready to bring that experience to more people over time.
